| With the usual warm-up bats slung over his left shoulder, George Herman Ruth, better known as Babe Ruth, gets ready for a game in New York’s Yankee Stadium. Best remembered for his home-run hitting ability as an outfielder for the Yankees, Ruth also earned a .676 game-winning percentage as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. Many of his home-run records held for many decades after his retirement, including most home runs in one season (60 in 1927) and most home runs in a career (714). Ruth was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 and is considered one of the most extraordinary and outspoken talents in baseball history. |
