Andre’s 144 Magnesium Squares

Andre’s 144 Magnesium Squares
American sculptor Carl Andre is an important figure in minimal art. Many of Andre’s works involved stacking or arranging prefabricated commercial objects such as bricks in simple mathematical shapes. The work pictured here was created in 1969 and consists of 144 squares of magnesium arranged in a grid on the floor of the Tate Gallery in London, England.
