New France in 1750
New France was the French empire in North America. By 1750 fur traders had expanded it in the northwest, although wars with the British had reduced it in the east. Actual French settlement was largely limited to present-day Nova Scotia, Québec province, Illinois, and Louisiana. French influence extended farther through alliances with the indigenous nations for trade and defense.
