State House, Boston
Strongly influenced by his travels in Europe, American architect Charles Bulfinch combined elements of classical and neoclassical architecture to evolve the Federal style. With its dome, columns, and precise ornament, the State House in Boston, Massachusetts, completed in 1798, is an example of this style which dominated early 19th-century architecture.
