Constituents of Blood
The most common tissue transplants are blood and plasma transfusions. Most surgical procedures involve blood transfusions. Plasma, the yellow, water-based liquid in which blood cells are suspended, is a concentrated source of nutrients such as glucose, fats, proteins, and the amino acids needed for protein synthesis, vitamins, and minerals. The test tube on the right has been centrifuged to separate plasma and packed cells by density.
