Jackie Robinson
After a year with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues, Jackie Robinson was signed by Branch Rickey of the Brooklyn Dodgers. When he took the field with the Dodgers in 1947, Robinson became the first black baseball player in the modern major leagues. Playing from 1947 to 1956, Robinson had a career batting average of .311, and in 1962 he became the first black player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
