American Gothic
American Gothic was painted by Grant Wood in 1930. The style of this piece is influenced by 15th-century Flemish portraits. Wood’s subject matter was rural America, a world that the artist often satirized in his work. American Gothic, which is Wood’s most famous painting, is part of the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
