Molly Pitcher

Molly Pitcher
This drawing shows Molly Pitcher fighting with American troops during the Battle of Monmouth in 1778. An American hero whose real name is in dispute, Pitcher was named for the thousands of water pitchers she carried to the troops during the battle. Some historians write that at one point in the battle she stood in for her husband when he was overcome by heat.
