Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy

Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy
Fifteenth-century Italian architect Leon Battista Alberti often designed new facades for older structures. He created the marble facade of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy, to complete the existing facade, left unfinished in the 14th century. The church, built from the 13th to the 15th century, stands on the north bank of the Arno River and houses many famous frescoes and paintings of the late 1400s and early 1500s.
