Gorgon
The Gorgon in ancient Greek mythology was a terrifying creature with snakes for hair, tusklike teeth, large wings, and a tongue that was always stuck out. This terra-cotta figure of a Gorgon once decorated the Temple of Athena in Syracuse on the island of Sicily. It dates from 570 to 550 bc and is now in the Museo Archeologico in Syracuse.
