| A fish seller carries his wares in this print by 19th-century Japanese painter and printmaker Hiroshige. Hiroshige’s prints of everyday scenes were very successful during his lifetime. Hiroshige, who created some 5,400 prints during his career, was the last great artist of the Ukiyo-e school of printmaking. Artists of this movement often portrayed the lives of common people, actors, and courtesans. |
