Brian Dickson

Brian Dickson
As chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1984 to 1990, Brian Dickson oversaw the Court’s first generation of decisions on the newly enacted Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Dickson’s decisions claiming a more activist role for the Court under the charter made him one of the most significant chief justices in the history of the Court.
