Gown by Worth
English designer Charles Worth established one of the most elegant fashion houses in Paris in the late 1800s. The house continued after his death in 1895, producing evening gowns such as the black one worn by this svelte model from 1921. Tubular in shape, the gown features a swath of fabric held at the hip with a rose and is bordered with roses at the hemline. This illustration, entitled Le Paravent Rouge (“The Red Screen”), appeared in the French fashion journal Gazette de Bon Ton.
