Throughout his political career, Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau argued for a powerful Canadian federal union. Although he was himself Québécois, he opposed the separatist movement that campaigned for full sovereignty for the province of Québec. In this recording, Trudeau responds to the victory of the separatist Parti Québécois in 1976 provincial elections in Québec.
