Atlas Rocket Launches a Communications Satellite
An Atlas rocket lifts off from Cape Canaveral Air Force base early on October 20, 1998, carrying a United States Navy communications satellite. In 1962 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) used an Atlas rocket to launch American astronaut John Glenn into orbit aboard the Friendship 7 space capsule. Today, Atlas rockets launch commercial and government satellites.
