Rambouillet Sheep

Rambouillet Sheep
Rambouillet sheep produce fine, soft, merino wool, a type that is highly valued in the garment industry. In response to a request from the French government in 1786, Spanish king Charles III sent merino sheep to the Rambouillet farm near Paris to improve French sheep stocks. Rambouillet sheep are large and muscular, and fine wool covers their bodies, heads, and legs. The animal shown here has been partly shorn to show the thickness of its wool.
