Tea Pickers in Assam
The state of Assam in northeastern India produces as much as 15 percent of all tea grown in the world. Assam's high rainfall and hilly terrain provide the right combination of climate and altitude to grow tea slowly, enriching its flavor. Nearly two-thirds of India's workforce is employed in agriculture, and much of the planting and harvesting is done by hand.
