Évariste Galois

Évariste Galois
Évariste Galois died in 1832 at the age of 21 after being mortally wounded in a duel. While he was alive, his mathematical theories were criticized as obscure and undeveloped, and he twice failed the entrance examination for the École Polytechnique. When his work was published in 1846 and 1870, Galois gained recognition as an important mathematician.
