Principally a pianist, Polish composer Ignace Jan Paderewski wrote symphonies and orchestral pieces in addition to solo works for the piano. Known for his interpretations of the music of Frédéric Chopin, Paderewski conducted extensive tours throughout Western Europe and the United States. Paderewski devoted himself to Polish independence and performed concerts to raise money for Polish relief. His later career included serving in the government of the newly established Polish Republic.
