American animator Tex Avery directed animated short films that often featured animals with human attributes and that contained exaggerated, surreal scenes of slapstick violence. Avery helped develop the characters Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck for Warner Bros. and Droopy the Dog for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Producer Fred Quimby released The Counterfeit Cat for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1949.
