Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki

Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki
Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl constructed several oceangoing vessals out of traditional materials such as reed and papyrus to test possible migration routes of ancient peoples. In 1947 he sailed from Callao, Peru, to the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia on a balsa raft, the Kon-Tiki, pictured here.
