Tomb of Lorenzo de’ Medici
The tomb of Lorenzo de’ Medici, designed and carved by Michelangelo, is one of four elaborate works that the artist planned for the Medici Chapel in the Church of San Lorenzo, Florence, Italy. Below the seated figure of Lorenzo de’ Medici, a major patron of the arts in Florence, lie figures representing Dusk and Dawn. Michelangelo began work on the chapel in 1519 and continued to work on it intermittently, but he left Florence for Rome in 1534, with major portions of his design still unfinished.
