Smelting Copper

Smelting Copper
A worker processes molten copper metal created by smelting ore. The world’s most commercially important copper deposits occur in the earth’s crust as sulfide ores, including chalcocite and chalcopyrite. The ore must first be crushed and concentrated before being heated in a furnace. Metallic copper is approximately 98 percent pure after being smelted.
