Landing on the short runway of an aircraft carrier, such as the USS Constellation shown here, is one of the most difficult tasks a navy pilot can attempt. The pilot of a U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter jet successfully locks the plane’s tailhook onto an arresting cable that stops the plane, and then clears the runway for the next plane to land.
