Johnson Signs Civil Rights Bill

Johnson Signs Civil Rights Bill
Lyndon Johnson’s years of experience in Congress gave him an edge in pushing through his legislative proposals. Here Johnson signs the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which banned racial discrimination in public accommodations and by employers, unions, and voting registrars. The passage of the act over the objections of Southern senators was one of Johnson’s greatest achievements.
