In the 1940s Soong Mei-ling, the American-educated wife of Chinese leader Chiang Kai-shek, was influential in gaining United States support for her husband’s military campaigns against Japan. She wrote articles for U.S. publications and addressed American audiences through transoceanic radio broadcasts, such as this one, to plead her case.
