German composer Robert Schumann’s Carnaval (1834-1835) is an imaginative series of brief piano sketches. The sketches represent the personalities of various acquaintances. This excerpt, titled “Estrella,” is named for Ernestine von Fricken, a former girlfriend and the illegitimate daughter of Baron von Fricken.
