Contemporary Native American Art

Contemporary Native American Art
In this untitled work, 20th-century Yurok painter and sculptor Rick Bartow depicts a cosmos of transformative enegy. Many of his drawings and paintings show creatures half human, half animal, as if in a process of transformation. Drawing on Native American myth and on myths from around the world, Bartow’s work is both deeply personal and accessible to many audiences. He acknowledges the inspiration of Russian-born French painter Marc Chagall.
