The corona is the outermost layer of the Sun’s atmosphere. It extends throughout the solar system, becoming more and more diffuse at greater distances from the Sun. The European Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), launched in 1995, captured these images of the corona close to the Sun.
