The 15th century altarpiece Saint John the Evangelist on Patmos (1479) by Flemish painter Hans Memling depicts Saint John’s vision of the Christian millennium. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, center, symbolize the end of the current world. God is shown on a throne surrounded by angels and benevolent creatures, upper left corner, representing a new age of peace. The altarpiece is in the Memling Museum in Brugge, Belgium.
