Betty Friedan, the first president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), addresses a crowd of political activists gathered for the Women’s Day Parade in 1970. NOW became one of the most influential feminist organizations during the 1970s as it led a highly publicized campaign to pass an amendment to the Constitution of the United States that would guarantee equal rights for both women and men.
