East River, New York
The East River in New York City connects Long Island Sound with Upper New York Bay. It is among the state’s major tourist attractions. Sightseeing boats circle the island of Manhattan (seen here from under the Brooklyn Bridge) via the East River. In the background the World Trade Center towers (the two tallest towers in the photo) can be seen. Those towers were destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
