British prime minister Winston Churchill popularized the term “Iron Curtain” in this 1946 speech at Westminister College in Fulton, Missouri. The term described the line of eastern European nations that fell under control of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) after World War II (1939-1945).
