Child with Measles
Small red spots and fever characterize rubeola, commonly called measles, a contagious, virus-induced disease that can lead to death if left untreated. Measles was a common childhood disease in the United States until the development of a vaccine in 1963. The disease was first identified between AD 854 and 925 by al-Razi, an Arab physician.
