Peanut Plant Showing Edible Fruit
The fruit of the peanut or groundnut, Arachis hypogaea, forms mainly in the ground. Native to South America, the peanut plant is now cultivated in regions of the United States, South America, Africa, and Asia where the growing season is long and warm. The peanut, a member of the legume family, is rich in protein, B vitamins, and oil. The plants themselves can be used as livestock feed.
