| Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated on November 5 with bonfires and fireworks. The festival marks the day in 1605 that Guy Fawkes and other conspirators planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, England. Today, in mock rebellion, children make effigies of Guy Fawkes and parade down the street, chanting and asking passersby for money to spend on fireworks. The effigies are burned in bonfires later that night. |
