The X-Ray Sky

The X-Ray Sky
X-ray sources appear as colored dots in this image of the whole sky, computer-generated from data gathered by the internationally operated ROSAT satellite. About 50,000 objects appear here. Although many are dense objects in our own galaxy, such as supernova remnants, most of the fainter ones are quasars, billions of light-years beyond the Milky Way Galaxy.
