Edict of Nantes

Edict of Nantes
The Edict of Nantes, proclaimed by French king Henry the IV in 1598, marked the end of religious wars between French Roman Catholics and Protestants for 87 years. The Edict of Nantes gave partial religious freedom to the Huguenots (French Protestants), but was never completely carried out. Louis XIV revoked the agreement in 1685.
