| Ha Long Bay is located in northern Vietnam in the northern part of the Gulf of Tonkin. Many of the islands in the bay are characterized by unusual limestone formations. In 1994 these islands were designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). | ||||||
