The British Colossus

The British Colossus
Intended to show the extent of British control in Africa in the early 1900s, this drawing depicts Cecil Rhodes, the main leader of British expansion in Africa, as the Colossus of Rhodes. He is straddling Africa, with one foot on Cape Town, South Africa, and the other on Cairo, Egypt. The drawing was first published in the English magazine Punch in 1892.
