United States Marines fire at Iraqi positions in January 1991 near the town of Khafji, Saudi Arabia, at the border between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Iraqi forces temporarily occupied Khafji at the outset of the Persian Gulf War (January-February 1991); the forces of the opposing multinational coalition, led by U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf, heavily bombarded the Iraqi infantry and recaptured the town. President George Bush is heard here addressing the nation shortly after allied air forces began attacking Iraq.
