Gyeongbok Palace, Seoul
Gyeongbok Palace is one of several former royal residences that stand out in the modern urban landscape of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The palace dates to the Chosŏn (Joseon) dynasty, which was based in Seoul from 1392 until the Japanese occupation of Korea (1910-1945) ended dynastic rule there.
