Thermal Region, Iceland
Iceland was formed by volcanic activity. Lava tablelands and mountainous outcroppings constitute much of its topography, rendering a majority of the land uninhabitable. The country has many thermal springs in the form of either geysers or boiling mud lakes, such as these. Hot springs produce enough energy to heat buildings in cities, including Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital and largest city.
