Coastal Lagoons, Belize
The Caribbean Sea, perhaps the most dominant physical feature in Belize, forms the country’s entire eastern border. The coast is lined by bays, sandy beaches, islets, lagoons, and the western hemisphere’s longest barrier reef—features which provide the subtropical country with a developing tourist industry. Here the swampy lowlands of northern Belize extend to a coastal lagoon.
