| Juliette Low traveled the United States between 1912 and 1915 organizing troops and establishing a national headquarters for the Girl Guides in the United States. In 1915 these troops were formally organized, and Low was recognized as the founder and first president of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. The U.S. organization is now the largest voluntary group for girls and young women in the world, having more than 3 million members. Here, Low (at center) stands with two scouts in the organization’s early years. |
