Crater Lake, Oregon

Crater Lake, Oregon
The serene setting of Wizard Island in the waters of Crater Lake belies the explosive forces that formed the landscape of southern Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park. Mount Mazama is believed to have exploded violently about 7700 years ago, and the resulting caldera forms the outer rim of Crater Lake. Wizard Island is actually the top of another volcano, now extinct, that grew after Mazama’s great eruption.
