Populist songwriting and the incorporation of traditional music and dance into popular music has been encouraged by the government of Tanzania, contributing greatly to the growth of a lively local scene. Tanzanian dance music is heavily influenced by Congolese, Arabic, and Indian music and is also deeply rooted in the tradition of praise singing and the use of the Swahili language.
