Million Man March
Black men converged on the Mall in Washington, D.C., on October 16, 1995, for the Million Man March, one of the largest demonstrations ever held in the nation’s capital. The gathering, billed as “A Holy Day of Atonement, Reconciliation, and Responsibility,” was conceived by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and organized by Benjamin Chavis, who had been with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
