General Douglas MacArthur was one of the most important American military leaders of the 20th century. MacArthur commanded American troops in World War II and United Nations forces in the Korean War. In 1951 United States president Harry Truman dismissed MacArthur from his command of UN forces in Korea after MacArthur defied administration war policy. Upon losing his command, MacArthur spoke these words as part of a speech to Congress on April 19, 1951.
