As one of the leading figures of the modernist movement in late-19th and early-20th century literature, Nicaraguan writer and diplomat Rubén Darío contributed to the development of poetry in Latin America and Spain. In “To Columbus,” Darío addresses Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus and informs him that Spain planted the seeds of ruin that have destroyed the Americas.
